SMCS Organizes ‘Exploring Robotics: Concepts, Challenges, and Hands-on Experience’ Workshop
November 29, 2024: IBA-SMCS hosted an exciting ‘Exploring Robotics: Concepts, Challenges, and Hands-on Experience’ workshop. It was led by Dr. Syed Ali Raza, Assistant Professor, CS Department, SMCS. Attendees included industry representatives, as well as IBA and other HEI students.
The workshop explored cutting-edge robotics trends, showcasing top robots for personal and industrial use. Dr. Raza addressed real-world challenges, including automating fulfillment centers, and separated fact from hype in AI and robotics. Participants learned about robotics fundamentals, including actuators, sensors, and designing purpose-driven systems, while exploring core modules like Perception, Localization, Cognition, and Locomotion, with examples such as TurtleBot and NAO robots.
Attendees gained hands-on experience with the Robot Operating System (ROS), navigating a TurtleBot3 in the Gazebo simulator. A live Sim-to-Real demo demonstrated an obstacle avoidance application on a real TurtleBot2.
The event concluded with an insightful talk by Mr. M. Adeel from the National Aerospace Center, discussing real-world robotics applications. Overall, the event provided a valuable blend of theory and hands-on experience, enriching participants' understanding of robotics and its industry potential.
