SMCS launches Parvaaz Mentorship Program to shape future leaders
March 28, 2024: The School of Mathematics and Computer Science (SMCS), IBA Karachi, proudly launched its highly anticipated Parvaaz Mentorship Program with an inaugural session held at the Main Campus. Developed in partnership with CDC & ARCC, this initiative represents a significant stride towards nurturing the professional growth and development of computer science students. The event commenced with the introduction of esteemed international and local mentors who will play pivotal roles in guiding and nurturing the next generation of talent. Dr. Shakeel Khoja, Dean SMCS; and the Executive Director IBA, Dr. S Akbar Zaidi welcomed all the attendees.
A highlight of the session was the insightful testimonial from Nader Nanjiani, a distinguished IBA alumnus from the Class of 1991. Having participated in the pilot alumni mentorship program, Mr. Nanjiani praised SMCS for expanding the initiative on a larger scale. Additionally, testimonials from previous mentees including Abdullah Chothani and Ibrahim Ahmed Khan, underscored the transformative impact of mentorship on personal and professional growth.
Atif Murtaza, Head of CDC, IBA presented a comprehensive overview of the Parvaaz Mentorship Program, outlining its objectives and strategies for success. This was followed by an engaging Q&A session.
The event convened industry leaders for a dynamic panel discussion on 'From Classroom to Boardroom: A Tech Leader's Journey.' Esteemed panelists, including Jehan Ara, CEO, Katalyst Labs; Asif Jafri, Founder, Kistpay; Kashif Jadoon, CEO, Bluetech Consulting; Kashif Ul Haque, General Manager, CISCO; Muhammad Ilyas, Head of Digital Infrastructure, Systems Limited; and Zainab Hameed, Founder, EdTech; provided valuable insights. The discussion was moderated by Jawwad Farid, Professor of Practice, SMCS, IBA.
The session concluded with heartfelt thanks from Malahat Awan, Director, Alumni Affairs & Resource Mobilization, IBA emphasizing the collaborative effort that made this program possible.
