SMCS Hosts a Workshop on 'The Art of Cyber Security Defense: Protecting Your Digital Assets'
October 26, 2024: IBA-SMCS hosted an insightful, full-day workshop on The Art of Cyber Security Defense: Protecting Your Digital Assets at the IBA Main Campus. This highly anticipated event featured industry experts Mr. Muzzamil Hussain, AVP Digital Information Assurance, NBP, and Mr. Saif-ur-Rehman, Senior Consultant, Ecovis, Saudi Arabia.
The workshop commenced with Mr. Hussain leading a session focused on critical aspects of information security and the structural design of cybersecurity departments. He provided valuable insights into Indicators of Compromise (IOCs), their analysis, and the operations of Security Operations Centers (SOCs).
Following this, Mr. Saif-ur-Rehman joined the workshop virtually from Saudi Arabia, presenting on SOCs, which included discussions on their components, models, structures, tools, and performance indicators. His session also covered Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), exploring its various models and architectural deployment, and included a hands-on lab for participants to gain practical experience with SIEM.
The workshop concluded with a guest speaker session from Mr. Mustafa Kashif, Cyber Security Solutions Engineer, Trillium Information Security Systems. He addressed database security, discussing different types of databases, including relational and non-relational, and common attacks on relational databases, such as data exfiltration and denial-of-service (DOS) attacks.
This interactive workshop attracted participants from various sectors, including industry professionals, IBA alumni, undergraduate students from IBA and other institutions in Karachi, as well as Master's and PhD students and faculty members.
