SMCS hosts seminar on ‘An Introduction to Topological Quantum Field Theory (TQFT) - Part One’
August 30, 2024: School of Mathematics and Computer Science (SMCS), IBA Karachi, hosted a seminar as part of the Basic Notions Seminar Series (BNSS) titled ‘An Introduction to Topological Quantum Field Theory (TQFT) - Part One’. The talk featured Dr. Azeem Hassan, Assistant Professor, SMCS, who presented an engaging dialogue on TQFT.
The session provided a comprehensive overview of Topological Quantum Field Theories (TQFTs), which are essential in the exploration of quantum field theories that can be fully axiomatized. Dr. Azeem discussed the significance of TQFTs in classifying low-dimensional theories, their application in geometry for discovering manifold invariants, and their crucial role in physics, particularly in describing the low-energy limits of quantum field theories. Additionally, the talk delved into the generalizations of Atiyah's axioms, offering deep insights into both the mathematical and physical aspects of TQFTs.
This seminar was well-attended by faculty and students from IBA, NED, and Karachi University, providing a valuable opportunity to bridge theoretical concepts with practical applications in mathematics and physics.
