SMCS Hosts Seminar on 'An Introduction to Topological Quantum Field Theory (TQFT) – Part Two'
September 06, 2024: School of Mathematics and Computer Science (SMCS), IBA Karachi, hosted a seminar as part of the Basic Notions Seminar Series (BNSS) titled 'An Introduction to Topological Quantum Field Theory (TQFT) - Part Two'. The talk featured Dr. Azeem Hassan, Assistant Professor, SMCS, who continued an engaging dialogue on TQFT.
Dr. Azeem Hassan's talk on TQFTs during the second session of BNSS provided a thorough overview of the subject. The session began with a review of fundamental TQFT definitions and progressed to exploring their properties in one and two dimensions, emphasizing their unique theoretical implications.
Dr. Hassan also introduced the foundational concepts of BF theories, including Pontryagin duality and Heisenberg algebras. He connected these theoretical concepts with their practical applications in quantum physics, offering insights into how abstract theories can impact real-world science.
The seminar was well-attended by graduate students and scholars from IBA, who engaged actively with the content. The session was marked by insightful questions and discussions, reflecting the audience's deep engagement and interest in the subject matter.
This educational seminar provided a thorough overview of TQFTs and set the stage for future discussions on BF theories.
