SMCS hosts Final Year Projects Exhibition 2024

June 01, 2024: The School of Mathematics and Computer Science (SMCS), IBA Karachi, hosted the Final Year Projects Exhibition 2024, at the Main Campus. Students from the Department of Computer Science, Class of 2020, presented over 45 groundbreaking projects, offering efficient solutions to real-world challenges in Machine Learning, AI, Data Science, Generative AI, and more.

Esteemed industry leaders and academics from top organizations including Systems Limited, Folio3, Bazaar Technologies, Amreli Steels, HBL, GSK and Careem evaluated these exceptional projects, providing invaluable feedback.

Dean SMCS, Dr. Shakeel Khoja; Chairperson SMCS, Dr. Shahid Hussain; Assistant Professor & FYP Coordinator, CS Department, Dr. Tahir Syed; and other IBA faculty members commended the creativity and dedication displayed by the students.

Distinguished projects of FYP 2024 included:

  • No-Code Platform for Customized Chatbots/AI Agents: Developed by Umme Labib Asif, Zohaib Azam, Hussain Murtaza, Shariq Anwar, and Ibrahim Sheikh, and supervised by Dr. Tahir Syed and Nabeel Moolji. This project revolutionizes business and personal use with a no-code platform for building customized AI chatbots, emphasizing user control and privacy.
  • AR Virtual Try-On for Clothing: Created by Adeen Atif, Muhammad Saad Tariq, Mir Hamza Ali, and Dania Ahmed under the guidance of Dr. Syed Ali Raza and Arsalan Rashid. This AR application, DASHFit, enhances online shopping by allowing users to virtually try on clothes in real-time. 
  • Football Data Generation and Analysis with Deep Learning: Developed by Muhammad Hamza Shariq (Group Lead), Ali Sohail Shaikh, Ali Ahmed Nadeem, and Muhammad Maaz Adnan, and mentored by Ms. Abeera Tariq. This project empowers football clubs with deep learning models for detailed match analysis and event detection.
  • AI Gym Instructor: Created by Aman Razi Kidwai, Arisha Rashid Khan, Asad Virani, Ahsan Ahmed, and Alliya Parvez, and guided by Mr. Mukarram Siddiqui, Dr. Tahir Syed, and Mr. Bahawal Baloch. Fitness Visionnaire.ai provides real-time form feedback using computer vision to maximize workout efficiency and safety.
  • Urdu Braille Recognition System: Developed by Muhammad Uzair Siddiqui, Muhammad Ali Haider, Muhammad Aarij, Muhammad Arham bin Johar, and Ayesha Ashraf, and supervised by Dr. Muhammad Saeed and Dr. Tahir Syed. This project converts Urdu Braille into readable text and speech with a mobile app, aiding visually impaired users.
  • Autonomous Drone Navigation with SITL Simulation: Created by Syed Muneeb Hoda, Usman Ghani Bawany, Mirza Bilal Baig, Usaid Bhirya, and Hamza Wala Qadr, guided by Dr. Syed Ali Raza, Adil Saleem, and Hashir Khilji (Systems Limited). This project enhances search and rescue operations with an AI-powered autonomous drone for real-time human detection and geolocation.
  • Skills Targeted Assessment and Review (STAR): Created by Maaz Shamim (Lead), Muhammad Abdur Rafae, Muhammad Maaz Arsalan Batla, Hasaan Ahmed Saeed, and Saifullah Khan, and mentored by Jawwad Ahmed Farid. This project introduces Arete, an innovative assessment platform that personalizes learning and improves student outcomes through data-driven insights.

The event showcased the students' talent and innovation, strengthening ties between academia and industry for future opportunities.
