SMCS celebrates International Day of Mathematics
March 14-15, 2024: The School of Mathematics and Computer Science (SMCS) IBA, in collaboration with the IBA Math and Astronomy Club (IMAC), recently organized a two-day academic celebration to honor the International Day of Mathematics (IDM). The event aimed to cultivate a deep appreciation and culture for mathematics among the youth, while also highlighting its relevance in today’s world.
The event featured engaging talks by Dr. Babar Ahmed Qureshi, Professor and Program Coordinator BS Math; Dr. Shabana Nisar, Associate Professor, SMCS; and Dr. Junaid Alam, Associate Professor and Director Talent Hunt Programs. One of the highlights of the event was the stimulating math quizzes, designed to challenge participant’s critical thinking skills.
The turnout for the event was impressive, with students taking part not only from IBA, but also several other colleges across Karachi. Additionally, the event also featured a special STEM circle session, with middle and high school students, led by Dr. Nisar and Dr. Adnan Khan from LUMS. It aimed to instill in them a passion for both science and mathematics.
The collaborative efforts of SMCS and IMAC ensured that the event was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on all those who attended.
