December 06, 2023: The Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi hosted its third session from Tapal's 'Tum, Mein Aik Aur Cup Chai' series at the G&T Auditorium, Main Campus to foster and initiate conversations on topics that are relevant to students, faculty, and public. The event brought together dynamic personalities in two distinct panels.
The first panel was from the corporate sector bringing in experienced professionals to talk about the changes they have seen over the years in the corporate world to accommodate Gen Z in the workplace. Notable guests included Ms. Nadia Sayeed, Faculty member, Department of Management, IBA; Ms. Faiza Tariq, Group Head People & Culture, HRSG; Mr. Saif Ali, Startup Consultant and Advisor, and Mr. Furqan Kidwai, Co-Founder, YPay.
The second panel represented Gen Z with younger professionals who shared their personal journeys and experiences. This panel included Ms. Muskaan Sheikhani, Engagement & Culture Specialist, Tapal Tea (Pvt) Ltd.; Ms. Alizey Talib, Assistant Manager Talent Management & Succession Planning, Engro Corp; and Mr. Mohammad Aaqib, Portfolio Manager, SEED Ventures (Private) Limited. The event was moderated by Ms. Amra Mubashir, General Manager Human Resources, Tapal Tea (Pvt) Ltd.
The forum was welcomed by Executive Director IBA, Dr. S Akbar Zaidi followed by a welcome note by Director Alumni Affairs, Resource Mobilization & Corporate Affairs IBA, Ms. Malahat Awan. The event established its focus on connecting with youth through engaging quizzes and audience participation. The audience participated through Kahoot to share their opinions and answer questions about their perception of what Gen Z wants from the workplace.
The key topics under discussion included 'importance of purpose in work' so that Gen Z feels that they are adding value through their roles. The reason why the startup culture attracts young people is that not only does it provide a lean structure to work directly with the leadership but also a varied role where they can be working in data analytics one day and attending a meeting for selling the product next day.
The Q&A session provided students an opportunity to question key priorities, when accepting a job and the type of roles that contribute to success in their professional journey.
The event was a collaboration between IBA Karachi, Tapal Tea (Pvt) Ltd. and the IBA Alumni Society. The students were able to win prizes by participating in a quiz and other social activities.
