IBA Faculty Leads Nationwide STEM Initiative to Empower Female Students and Educators
January 2025: The new year started with a series of engaging STEM sessions for female students, led voluntarily by Dr. Shabana Nisar, to promote STEM education across public schools in Sindh. In addition to the student-focused activities, mini-workshops for teachers were also conducted, attracting over 150 educators from the region.
A standout event was a Math mini-workshop at the GBSS Children's Educational Center in District Central, Karachi. Here, 71 teachers participated in exploring dynamic strategies to make Mathematics enjoyable by incorporating interactive games and activities.
A similar workshop took place in Sujawal, Sindh, bringing together educators from Thatta, Badin, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Sujawal. This session focused on middle and high school algebra, introducing innovative and interactive teaching methods to make Mathematics more engaging and accessible for students.
Dr. Shabana Nisar also conducted a workshop at Idara-e-Sharqia for Mathematics teachers in District East, where 42 teachers from various schools participated. These workshops aimed to equip educators with creative strategies to make Mathematics more appealing and foster greater female participation in STEM fields.
In addition to the workshops for teachers, Dr. Nisar engaged female students at these locations in hands-on activities designed to spark their interest in Mathematics and other STEM subjects. These initiatives reflect the IBA STEM Circles' strong commitment to transforming STEM education by providing teachers with effective classroom strategies and inspiring young girls to pursue STEM careers.
These sessions were conducted in collaboration with LUMS Math Circles, further strengthening the partnership between the two institutions to promote STEM education across the region.
