IBA faculty member graduates from Harvard Law School

Mr. Essa recently graduated from the Harvard Law School with an LLM (Master of Laws) and a Dean’s Scholar Prize, awarded for his exceptional academic achievement. During his course of studies at Harvard, he served as a Research Assistant to Professor Intisar Rabb (Director of the Program in Islamic Law) and as an International Bluebook Editor at the prestigious Harvard Law Review.

Mr. Essa is a Barrister (Lincoln’s Inn) and an ‘Ālim (traditional Islamic scholar) with law degrees from both the UK and US. He also holds an ‘Ālimiyya (Islamic scholarly qualification) from a traditional Islamic seminary. His research interests lie in comparative legal philosophy and the role of law in international relations in the Islamic world.
