Empowering the SMCS Community Through Alumni Connect 2025

November 27, 2025: The School of Mathematics & Computer Science (SMCS), IBA Karachi, hosted Alumni Connect 2025, an engaging and interactive networking event designed to bring together our Computer Science alumni and current CS and MT students for an evening of mentorship, insight, and community-building.

The session created a welcoming space where students could learn directly from alumni who have successfully transitioned into roles across global tech industries, graduate programs abroad, and entrepreneurial ventures within Pakistan. Alumni from the graduating classes of 2018 to 2024 shared their academic journeys, professional experiences, and personal insights, offering students a clearer understanding of opportunities and expectations beyond the classroom.

The event began with brief introductions from each alumnus, followed by an open networking session. Students were encouraged to interact with as many alumni as possible, ask questions, and gain clarity on topics such as career pathways, higher education choices, industry trends, internships, and navigating life at IBA.

The session brought together a diverse group of alumni mentors from various graduating batches and professional backgrounds, offering students a well-rounded perspective on career paths. Representing the Class of 2018 were Syed Ahsan Tanweer, Senior Software Engineer at the European Bioinformatics Institute, and Syed Hazkeel Haider Rizvi, Branding, People & Marketing Manager at Technologenesis. From the Class of 2019, Hassan Saeed, Software Engineer at Amazon, shared his insights, while Sohaib Bin Kamran, Working Student, Digital Product & User Experience at Eurowings Digital, represented the Class of 2022. The Class of 2023 was represented by Ibrahim Ahmed Khan, AI Engineer at Securiti.AI. The Class of 2024 featured three alumni: Abdul Ahad Imtiaz, Project Manager at Codefied; Umme Labib Asif, Software Engineer at Arbisoft; and Dania Ahmed, Machine Learning Engineer at Liquid Technologies. Together, they provided students with valuable exposure to global industry roles and emerging opportunities in tech.

Purpose & Impact

The primary goal of Alumni Connect is to strengthen the bridge between current students and the alumni community. The session allowed students to learn from the real-world experiences of their seniors, gain practical guidance on career development and skill-building, and understand how to make the most of their time at IBA. It also provided students with the opportunity to explore diverse domains and emerging roles in the tech landscape while building meaningful connections within the SMCS network.

Many students expressed that conversations with alumni helped address questions they often struggle to find answers to whether about internships, academic planning, employer expectations, or personal growth.

Alumni also shared their reflections on returning to campus, expressing appreciation for the evolving environment of IBA and the chance to contribute to the student community.

Alumni Connect 2025 stands as a testament to the growing SMCS community, one where experience is shared, guidance is valued, and the journey of every student is supported by those who came before them.
