CILET and HESSA collaborate to host a workshop on Effective Teaching Practices
June 06-07, 2024: The Centre for Innovation in Learning & Ed-Transformation (CILET), IBA conducted a two-day workshop on ‘Effective Teaching Practices’, facilitated by the USAID-funded program, Higher Education Systems Strengthening Activity (HESSA).
CILET at IBA has been created with the vision of making higher education interesting, relevant, and accessible. In line with this vision, the workshop aimed to help faculty identify and address learning challenges in their classrooms and develop instructional strategies to overcome these challenges, thereby enhancing teaching effectiveness.
The two-day workshop was attended by more than fifty faculty members from all schools of IBA. It featured insightful sessions led by distinguished instructors, including Dr. Steve Burian, Professor of Civil Construction and Environmental Engineering, University of Alabama; Professor Jim Agutter, Associate Professor Multi-Disciplinary Design Division, University of Utah; and Dr. Claire Major, Professor of Higher Education, University of Alabama.
The sessions covered a diverse range of topics including understanding learner needs, defining learning objectives, organizing engaging class sessions, and evidence-based teaching methods. The event concluded with final presentations and certificate distribution.
This two-day workshop helped participants develop skills which can be implemented directly in their courses, improving both teaching effectiveness and student engagement.
