Breast cancer awareness session by Dr. Zubaida Qazi

October 20, 2021: President Pink Pakistan, Dr. Zubaida Qazi held an awareness session on breast cancer at the IBA Main Campus. She commenced the session by explaining that breast cancer was a leading cancer among the women of Pakistan and Asia.

Dr. Qazi said that early detection was key to treating and curing this cancer. She emphasized that females above 40 years must go for a yearly Mammography for early detection. She further explained the need to perform self-examination once a month to keep a check on any notable changes in the breasts. She cautioned that changes in the breast's size, colour and any form of disfiguration can be indicative of the disease and hence must be checked out by a physician. The disease is also hereditary and if an immediate family member has it then other family members are at a 30% increased risk of developing the cancer. Talking about lifestyle changes to combat the cancer, Dr. Qazi urged the audience to introduce exercise in their daily lives and to overcome obesity and a sedentary lifestyle.

Furthermore, Dr. Qazi has contributed towards improving the infrastructure of the public health system by devising a referral mechanism and ensuring provision of much-necessary counseling services to breast cancer patients in Pakistan.
