SMCS Hosts Second Session of Basic Notions Seminar Series on 'Multigrid Methods in Scientific Computing: Advances and Challenges'

February 28, 2025: The Department of Mathematical Sciences, IBA-SMCS, hosted the second session of the Basic Notions Seminar Series, featuring Dr. Hisham Bin Zubair, Chairperson, Department of Mathematical Sciences. This session introduced Local Fourier Analysis (LFA) as a fundamental tool for analyzing and optimizing multigrid methods. Dr. Zubair discussed the h-ellipticity of discrete stencil operators, establishing a bound as a standard requirement for point smoothers. He also addressed problems that violate this requirement and presented alternative solutions.

The session concluded with an insightful discussion on iterative methodologies, laying the foundation for solving advanced and coupled partial differential equations (PDEs). This talk provided valuable insights for students and researchers working with numerical methods.
