Inclusive growth in Pakistan

May 30, 2023: An insightful talk was given by Dr. Moritz Meyer, senior economist at the World Bank on poverty, inequality, and opportunities for inclusive growth in Pakistan. While monetary poverty has reduced rapidly between 2001 and 2018, more recently, multiple shocks are expected to have led to a deterioration of household welfare. In this context, the presentation discussed three distinct questions: First, what have been the patterns, trends and drivers of poverty and inequality in Pakistan? Second, what are the limits and constraints to more inclusive and sustainable growth? And third, what are the opportunities to promote better living standards in the country?
