program is result of MoU signed between IBA, Karachi and SPJIMR,
India on August 3, 2012 aimed at strengthening the quality and array

Members of family businesses in Pakistan.
The series of ten workshops under the title “Managing Family
Businesses” brings to Pakistan SPJIMR’s unique expertise in Family

is designed for the owners who also are managing the business. It is

It is focused to address the concerns about adapting to the emerging
opportunities and managing the growth. The workshops aim at
providing a guided opportunity to the participants to reflect on
their current style of running business, to identify the new
elements required for gearing up for the change and to start working
on the same. It involves structured work in all the three areas of
Knowledge, Skill and Attitude.
Dr. Ishrat Husain, Dean & Director IBA, Karachi commented, “Family
Businesses in Pakistan have either been expanding or closing down or
facing operational difficulties. We haven’t yet been able to make a
systematic study of the factors that influence these different
outcomes. SPJ Institute of Management & Research is a regional
leader in training and developing case studies on this subject in
India. We wish to benefit from their expertise and experience to
train our family business managers and also develop our knowledge
base. I am grateful to the Institute for collaborating with us and
making this happen. We hope this would be a long term partnership
which would be mutually beneficial to both the institutions.”
Dr. M L Shrikant Hon. Dean SPJIMR said, “We are excited at the
possibilities emerging from the signing of MOU between SPJIMR and
IBA. Both the countries share similar culture as far as family
businesses are concerned. With our experience of running a special
management program for Family Managed Businesses for over 15 years
now, we believe this MOU opens up the possibilities of sharing these
learning with family businesses in Pakistan and in turn learn from
them about their practices. We believe this academic exchange and
family businesses will contribute in building better relation of
mutual trust and confidence between our two nations. IBA is a great
institution and we are confident of building strong programs jointly
with them.”

About SPJIMR, India:
BharatiyaVidyaBhavan’s S.P. Jain Institute of Management and
Research (SPJIMR) is one of the premier business schools in the
country. Since its inauguration in 1981 by the then British Prime
Minister the Rt. Hon’able Margaret Thatcher, it has been
consistently recognized as one of the top 10 business schools in
India.
SPJIMR grew rapidly in eminence from one of the three B-schools in
Mumbai in 1981 to one of the top ten B-schools in the country by
1994-1995. The bold move to disaffiliate SPJIMR from the then Bombay
University to have freedom in course curriculum, pedagogic
innovations and pioneering programmers in socially under managed
sectors was a beginning of its journey to achieve the mandate it has
given itself in terms of unique innovative and distinct path in
management education. The institute has an enviable track record of
recognizing the needs of society, especially the under managed
sectors, and responding with quick and appropriate responses.
