Unveiling ceremony of the front page of The News International's first edition held at CEJ-IBA

July 15, 2019: The Centre for Excellence in Journalism, Institute of Business Administration, Karachi (CEJ-IBA) organized an event to unveil a copy of the framed front page of the first issue of The News International. The paper was launched on February 11, 1991 with Mr. Ghazi Salahuddin as its first editor. Mr. Salahuddin along with Ms. Sahar Ali - the ex-staffer who donated the copy - unveiled the copy of the newspaper in the CEJ newsroom. Staffers from the paper joined their former colleagues at the ceremony where they shared their about the newspaper was launched.

Mr. Salahuddin told the audience at the session that the paper had produced some of the best journalists in Pakistan, while reminiscing about the nascent days of the publication. Former editor and current President of Geo TV, Mr. Imran Aslam, spoke on how the challenge was to follow the template and style set of the paper. Group Managing Editor of the Jang Group of Publications, Mr. Shahrukh Hasan talked about how the newspaper industry was currently facing its worst crisis ever. Managing Director Geo TV, Mr. Azhar Abbas also spoke in his capacity as the chairperson of the CEJ advisory board.
