SESS organizes a talk on Twelver Shi'ism and the Concept of Tradition

15 June, 2023: Department of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts, School of Economics and Social Sciences (SESS), IBA hosted a talk titled 'Twelver Shi'ism and the Concept of Tradition' by Dr. Aun Hasan Ali, Assistant Professor, Religious Studies, University of Colorado Boulder, USA.

Students and faculty had an opportunity to ponder fascinating questions relating to the position of various kinds of Hadith in shaping Twelver Shi'i jurisprudence in pre-modern and modern times. Dr. Ali also addressed salient points about the present state of Islamic Studies in North American academia and offered the participants including, students and alumni valuable, individualized advice about pursuing a graduate career in the study of religion. The talk was moderated by SSLA's South Asian History Lecturer, Ms. Zahra Sabri.

The engaging talk provided an enriching platform for students, faculty, and alumni to explore the intersections of Twelver Shi'ism, tradition and contemporary Islamic Studies.
