IDEX - International Fellowship Opportunity

We are pleased to inform you regarding an international fellowship program. Details of the fellowship are:

Introduction

IDEX is a six-month fellowship experience designed for aspiring social intrapreneurs who want to take control their career path while helping to address society's most pressing problems.

Pre-Departure Orientation
3 weeks (Online)

The IDEX Fellowship begins with three weeks of virtual training delivered by IDEX staff and alumni. This orientation consists of virtual seminars, readings, and strategic deliverables to personally and professionally prepare you for your six month field experience.

Field Orientation
1 week (India)

Field Orientation is an intensive five day training and orientation event. Fellows will glean insight from professionals within India's social impact sector, as well as undertake workshops and engage with professionals and colleagues in order to gain deeper insight and knowledge of key aspects of social impact work.

Social Enterprise Placement
24 weeks (India)

For six months, fellows work with one of IDEX's partner enterprises as key staff member. Fellows work full-time (40 hours/week) with enterprises, interacting with customers, working hands-on with projects while building their professional portfolio and grappling first-hand with the complex issues of working for a socially-minded enterprise.

Capacity Building Workshops

To accompany each curriculum module, fellows will particpate in four full-day capacity building workshops over the course of their fellowship led by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Mentors-in-Residence who are seasoned professionals and thought leaders in their respective fields. Reflection & Debriefing
1 Day (Bangalore, India)

The end of the Year Conference celebrates Fellows' completion of the Global Fellowship at one day finale event. Fellows who have successfully completed all program requirements will be provided with the opportunity to showcase their work and their achievements amongst their peers and IDEX staff.

Curriculum

In addition to full-time field placement, fellows will also undertake 24 weeks of custom developed curriculum modules that cover Managing Social Innovation, Advocacy & Outreach, Resource Mobilization and Impact Measurement. The IDEX Curriculum is self-paced and provides fellows with a baseline understanding of each focus area delivered through a combination of short-readings and curated content. Fellows can expect to commit approximately 4-5 hours a week on each curriculum modules for a minimum of 96 hours over the entire program.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications to be eligible for the IDEX Fellowship:

  • Have a Bachelor, Masters or Graduate Degree (in any field) prior to start of program
  • Ability to perform in a high pressure environment
  • Be proficient in English (both written and spoken)
  • Can obtain an India Business visa for a minimum of six months
  • Have a minimum of 1 to 3 years of professional work experience
  • Have excellent listening and communication skills (written and verbal)

The Investment
Tuition for the July '16 Fellowship Program is $3,950 USD.

Tuition covers the following:

  • 3-week virtual orientation
  • India field orientation (lodging + meals for all 4 days)
  • Monthly mentoring/capacity building workshops during fellowship
  • Networking events
  • 1:1 Mentoring sessions during fellowship
  • Curated curriculum
  • Full-time support staff & field managers

Tuition does not cover:

  • Travel to/from India
  • Transportation to/from the airport
  • Passport or Business visa cost
  • Living expenses during the fellowship

Stipends & Housing

Stipends

Fellows will receive a monthly living stipend (approx. $125 USD/month) towards cost of their living expenses. IDEX estimates that fellows living expenses, while in India, will average $250- $350 USD per month based on the city placement. *Please note the monthly stipends are intended to reduce a portion of the fellow's living expenses but are not intended to cover all estimated monthly living expenses.

Housing

IDEX provides shared housing accommodations for fellows (at no cost to the fellow) during the fellowship period. Fellows will be responsible for paying monthly utility costs.

Scholarships

Through generous funding from IDEX donors and partners, IDEX is able to provide a limited number of partial scholarships for the 2016 Program to select candidates.

IDEX SCHOLARSHIP FUND: $500- $2,000

IDEX provides partial scholarships for select fellows seeking to participate in the IDEX Accelerator program. Funding is merit-based and awarded to the most promising candidates who demonstrate a commitment and passion to continue working in the social enterprise sector post fellowship. This application is open to all global applicants.

INVESTWISE SCHOLARSHIP FUND: $3,500

As part of our commitment to investing in the transformation power of women's leadership, IDEX has launched the INVESTWISE Scholarship Fund with the goal of empowering and training future women intrapreneurs. Funding is awarded to the most promising candidates who demonstrate a commitment to continue working for a socially progressive enterprise post-fellowship. This scholarship award is restricted to female applicants only and requires a letter of recommendation from a mentor.

CROWDFUNDING YOUR TUITION

IDEX has formed a partnership with Indigogo to make it easier for fellows to raise funds for their fellowship. Indigogo allows fellows to create a personal fundraising page where you can direct family, friends and supporters and sponsors. To date, IDEX fellows have raised more than $40,000 from supporters.

Timeline

  • APPLICATIONS OPEN (January 1 - March 1, 2016)
    Applications for the July '16 Fellowship Program that will take place in Bangalore, India is now accepting applications. Application Deadline March 1, 2016.
  • PHONE INTERVIEWS (March 2 - March 15, 2016)
    Shortlisted candidates will participate in a phone/skype video interview.
  • APPLICATION NOTIFICATION (March 5 - March 16, 2016)
    Selected candidates will be extended invitations to join the July '16 Fellowship program. Select applicants will also receive scholarship notifications during this time phase.
  • CONFIRM ACCEPTANCE (March 21, 2016)
    Candidates will have five (5) days to confirm their acceptances from the date they receive an offer letter. Acceptances must be confirmed by March 21st. A non-refundable tuition deposit of $450 USD is due at the time the selected candidate confirms his/her acceptance into the fellowship.
  • TUITION PAYMENT (March 21 - May 31, 2016)
    IDEX offers fellows three payment options to pay their remaining tuition balance between March 21 and May 31.
  • APPLY FOR BUSINESS VISA (April 1 - April 15, 2016)
    Applicants will need to submit a valid (non-expired) copy of their passport at the time they confirm their fellowship offer. Passports must be valid for at least 1 year from submission. Applicants must apply for their Indian Business Visa by April 15th and submit a copy of their Indian Business visa to IDEX no later than June 1st.
  • PLACEMENT MATCHING (April 1 - May 31, 2016)
    Selected applicants may be invited to participate in an additional round of informational phone/skype interviews with IDEX's social enterprise partners.
  • FINAL TUITION PAYMENT DUE (May 31, 2016)
    All tuition payments must be received no later than May 31.
  • VIRTUAL ORIENTATION (June 13 - July 1, 2016)
    The Fellowship begins with three weeks of self-paced orientation.
  • FIELD ORIENTATION (July 4 - July 8, 2016)
    Field orientation takes place in Bangalore, India with one week of intense training and immersion, keynote speaker series and group innovation challenges.
  • ENTERPRISE PLACEMENT + CAPACITY BUILDING (July 11 - December 22, 2016)
    Fellows gain first-hand knowledge and experience working within an emerging market while working alongside their social enterprise placement and participating in professional development workshops.
  • FELLOWSHIP WRAP-UP + DEBRIEF (December 23, 2016)
    Fellows will gather in Bangalore for a final reflection event to mark the conclusion of the fellowship.
