IBA Faculty Visits Chengdu, China

IBA Karachi participated in the Confucius Institute, University of Karachi's annual educators' delegation to Chengdu, China from October 31 till November 8, 2017. Ms. Rabail Qayyum, Coordinator Foreign Languages Program, was nominated from IBA as a delegate.

The delegation was hosted by Sichuan Normal University (SNU) for a period of ten days to explore avenues of academic and research collaboration between the two countries. The visit was sponsored by the Headquarters of Confucius Institute (Hanban) in China. The delegation consisted of focal persons, coordinators or directors who had established Chinese language programs in their respective institutes. This year, a total of nine delegates were invited, representing Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi, University of Karachi, N.E.D. University of Engineering and Technology, Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, Preston University, and Newports Institute of Communication and Economics.

The delegation met with Mr. Wang Mingyi, President of SNU; Mr. Zhang Haidong, Vice President of SNU; Prof. Wei Guiwu, Assistant Dean College of Business as well as other professors and students. SNU specializes in language learning and there are currently 75 Pakistani students learning Mandarin in the university on fully-funded scholarships. The delegation also met with Mr. Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, Consul General of Pakistan in Chengdu and explored the idea of instituting Pakistan Research Center in SNU.

The delegation was given a taste of the rich local culture and history through visits to various places, most notably Jinsha Site museum, Dy Fu's Thatched Cottage, Sichuan museum, Chengdu museum, Kuan-zhai alley, Wuhou temple, and Luodai ancient town.
