This was followed by a speech by Mr. Shahid Shafiq. He welcomed all the alumni, especially the Chief Guest Mr. Zubair. Addressing the alumni, Mr. Shafiq stated, 'Your presence here and in the most prominent fields in the corporate world is proof of the living legacy of IBA.' Mentioning the Governor, he said, 'I have had the honour and pleasure of working with His Excellency for the last 2 years, and I assure you from personal experience, that he is the most down to earth human being, no false airs, no pretensions, etc. I could go on, but then I may be accused of flattery. On behalf of all the alumni, we congratulate you, Sir. You make us proud.' Talking about the 12000+ alumni network of IBA, he said that they are living proof of why IBA is the best business school in Pakistan.' He also wished Dr. Farrukh Iqbal the best of luck for his tenure and assured him of the unflinching support of the Alumni.

Speaking about how the Alumni can contribute to IBA, Mr. Shafiq said the Alumni can donate their time, money and energy to IBA; they can mentor and teach IBA students; and they can give preference to IBA students in the corporate world. He then expressed thanks to Mr. Aamir Shabbir, Mr. Jami Moiz, Mr. Mazhar Ali, Ms. Mariam Siddiqui and Mr. Arsalan Ashraf. He also thanked Mr. Dinshaw Avari and Mr. Jawed Mansha for their help and sponsorship; the entire team, Rimsha Imran, Maham Saqib, Taha Abbas, and other students since they pulled this off on very short notice; and the Alumni and the Governor for coming. He then invited the Governor on stage to address the audience.

The Governor, Mr. Zubair said that the IBA is the most prestigious institution in Pakistan. Speaking about the law and order situation in Karachi, he stated, 'Karachi has become a normal city in the last three years. The next phase is to make Karachi an economic hub. Hence, Karachi has to be marketed as an economic hub and we are trying to build our relations with the business community.' He then talked about the enormous gap between urban and rural Sindh, which has to be bridged. The benefits this will bring will be immense. 'We are going to set up a university in Hyderabad; we will also aim to improve health services in interior Sindh. Let's showcase to the rest of the country that we can deliver better.' He concluded by thanking Mr. Shahid Shafiq for inviting him. This was followed by an electrifying performance by Noori, which was immensely enjoyed by all.
