Seminar on Imam Hussain Ibne Ali

Oct 26, 2017: IBA Students Council organized the 2017 Seminar on Imam Hussain Ibne Ali on 26th October 2017 at the G&T Auditorium, Main Campus from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The speakers were Allama Riaz Jauhari, Professor Zahid Ali Zahidi, Dr. Umair Mahmood Siddiqui, and Mr. Jibran Nasir (a Pakistani human rights activist). The personality of Hazrat Imam Hussain does not need any introduction. He’s the grandson of our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAWW and the son of Fatimah binte Mohammad SAWW and Ali ibne AbuTalib. Imam Hussain sacrificed his family members and himself in the way of ALLAH to safeguard Islam. Charles Dickens is quoted as saying, “If Hussain had fought to quench his worldly desires...then I do not understand why his sisters, wives, and children accompanied him.”

The topic was “FREE SOUL- prerequisite for effective leadership and management”

Seminar on Imam Hussain Ibne Ali
The event started with the recitation of a Verse from the Holy Quran by Obaidullah Khan Lodhi and Naat e Rasool recited by Syed Daniyal Hassan. This was followed by an introduction of esteemed guest speakers Allama Riaz Jauhari, Professor Zahid Ali Zahidi, Dr. Umair Mahmood Siddiqui and Mr. Jibran Nasir. The introduction was followed by Professor Zahidi’s speech who highlighted the significance of this incident in the history of humankind. He shed light on Free Soul and and explained that "free soul' is not free from values. Rather, a free soul is the one that is value-driven. He mentioned how a free soul chooses between right and wrong which then leads to effective leadership and management.

The second speaker was Dr. Umair Mahmood. He started his speech by throwing light on the life of Imam Hussain and the cause for which Imam Hussain sacrificed his life. His speech also highlighted how Imam Hussain's ideology and the event of Karbala transcend all divides with valuable lessons for all human beings. He further explained that a free soul is the one that believes in "no god but God' and thus harmonised the concept of free soul with the Kalema.

Allama Riaz Jauhari addressed the audience next who further extended the thought of free soul's harmony with the Kalema. He said that the Kalema first begins with rejection of all that is unacceptable and then acceptance of the Existence and the Will of God. He said that to accept good, one must first reject all that is bad and evil. Allama Riaz Jauhari said that this had been attempted by the 123,999 Messengers of God for a long period of time. Imam Hussain demonstrated it in almost half a day on the battlefield of Karbala by wielding his sword first against the evil of Yazid and his army and then bowing before Almighty Allah which was his well-known last Sajda on the sands of Karbala. Imam Hussain gave a practical demonstration of the Kalema on the day of Ashura also exemplifying the meaning of a FREE SOUL.

The last speaker to come up was Mr. Jibran Nasir. He addressed the audience in a very different manner as he related all the past to the current happenings across the country. He related how injustice still prevails in our society and what the responsibilities of every citizen are. He also mentioned that to be an effective part of the society one should follow the leadership skills of Imam Hussain and learn how he stood against the unjust ruler of the time. In the end, he made a very apt remark by saying that Imam Hussain's zikr brings diverse schools of thought together on one platform which shows that Imam Hussain is the true leader as a leader is the one who brings people together.

This Seminar series is a small attempt at showing the big picture to our current and future practitioners.

Gani Tayyub Auditorium of IBA Main Campus was then spiritually enlightened by the beautiful verses of a salam by Mr. Shuja Rizvi. The verses brought tears to the eyes of some while making the others ponder over the entire event of Karbala, the happenings and the responsibilities which lie on our shoulders today as followers of the Prophet (SAWW). The event begun at 3:00 PM and as planned, ended at 6:00 PM. Guest speakers were presented with tokens of appreciation by Mr. Izhar Hussain of CED who presided over the Seminar. The audience were given refreshments at the end.
