Pakistan Developer Conference 2005 (PDC05)

The IBA Center for Computer Studies (CCS) was a sponsor in the Microsoft PDC conference held from June 13 – 15 at the Pearl Continental Hotel. Following are the details of the conference.

 

The Third Pakistan Developer Conference (PDC) was recently held in one of the local hotels (Pearl Continental Hotel) from June 13 to 15 by Microsoft Pakistan. Jawwad Rehman, Country Manager Microsoft Pakistan while addressing the conference said that it was one of the largest developer conferences of the year in the region. He stated that the aim of the PDC is to build the required IT momentum in the country and beyond Pakistan by gathering, promoting and supporting various levels of players that collectively form the local IT ecosystem.

 

He also highlighted a number of achievements by Microsoft with respect to IT education in the country under the Partners in Learning Program and in collaboration with National Commission for Human Development (NCHD). A number of foreign delegates from USA, UK, Turkey, Kenya, Egypt, Jordan and European countries participated in the conference as speakers and developer evangelists. The conference was attended by more than one thousand people (approximately 1200) and was also transmitted live to the LUMS campus in Lahore.

 

A major feature of PDC was the launching of Junior Developer Curriculum (JDC) at a daylong conference, which was held on June 16, 2005. “JDC introduces a localized version of curriculum developed by Microsoft Corporation for junior developers who are typically Matriculate and Intermediate level students. This localization was achieved in collaboration and partnership with the Institute of Business Administration IBA whose efforts were highly lauded. A stall of the Junior Developer Curriculum (JDC) was setup in the community hall which was housed in the Hina Room at PC Hotel bearing the IBA’s logo on the flyers dispatched to the visitors. The IBA logo was also prominently placed on both sides of the stage in the main hall.
